I’m taking advantage of this being my slow season and I’m traveling back to the US to visit family and friends for a month beginning August 18th. I’ll be in Minnesota for a week then departing to California, Arizona & Louisiana for two weeks then back to Minnesota to round off the trip before heading home to Jamaica. I only visit home (Minnesota) about once a year and I’m really excited to see my beautiful niece as well as my grandparents, parents, siblings and numerous other family members and friends. My only disappointment is that my husband will not be able to join me on this trip… hopefully next time.

If email response times are a little longer during that time I apologize now. I’ll have fairly good access to internet while in Minnesota, but since I’ll be traveling most of the time in CA, AZ and LA I’ll have more limited access. I will get back to you though! If need be I should also be able to be reached at 651 592 5550.

Thank you!
Ari

I had the pleasure of working with Mariel and Paul for almost a full year prior to their wedding and it was a pleasure getting to know them. It’s funny, how you get to know someone while planning their wedding and how you miss them when it’s done. They were so fun Mariel had a great sense of humor.

Mariel and Paul were married on Negril’s beautiful 7 mile beach at Idle Awhile. Idle Awhile happens to be one of my favorite beach locations. They added little personal touches throughout from homemade runners sewn by the Brides mother to the photo collage hanging above the bar. The Groom and Groomsmen added their special touch to the day with their dance down the aisle too! I even got to play a part in this wedding… as the two year old ring bearer was walking down the aisle (right before the Bride was to walk down) he was mesmerized by the steel pan band. I grabbed his hand and we walked up to the back row of chairs then he ran to Grandma who was calling him down the aisle. All of these precious moments were captured on film by Romey of the WPAJamaica You can also see more photos from this wedding on my website photo gallery.

I had a great time helping you celebrate such a monumental day in your lives. Thanks for letting me be a part of it!!

Jamaica received it’s independence 48 years ago today, on August 6th, 1962. It was also on this day that the Jamaican flag was flown for the first time.

“The sun shineth, the land is green and the people are strong and creative” is the symbolism of the colors of the flag. Black depicts the strength and creativity of the people; Gold, the natural wealth and beauty of sunlight; and green, hope and agricultural resources.

Today all the shops close down, and the beaches get packed with people celebrating the holiday.

We are celebrating today with a BBQ at a good friends house. Looking forward to a little wine, good food and great company.

Happy Independence Day everyone!

Paul and Linda… what can be said about Paul and Linda? They were awesome! I’ve never had a bridal party entrance like theirs, and I don’t know if I ever will again. Paul and Linda rocked down the aisle to Sweet Child of Mine by Guns and Roses as guests shook tamborines and danced along. I think the officiant was initially a little stunned (he wasn’t expecting that) but in the end he really got a kick out of it.

Linda really personalized this wedding with detail after detail from the table names, to the tamborines to t-shirts made up for everyone to wear prior to the event. They had great food, great music and great fun. Thanks to Misha Earle Photography for great pictures, DJ Gemini for the great music and most of all thanks to Linda and Paul for letting me be part of your day. I had a great time!

Thankfully we were able to send his brother’s back to Kingston on a bus, but because yesterday was a holiday we couldn’t get anything fixed until today so we booked a room and stayed the night. We finally got back about 9:30 tonight. If you’ve sent an email I haven’t forgotten about you, I just haven’t been able to respond. Thanks and sorry for the delay!

Several of O’Brian’s brothers (and one of their girlfriends) decided to come on down to Negril and visit us this weekend and now its going to be so quiet with just the two of us and the dogs here. On Saturday we were supposed to go to YS Falls (one of my favorite places to visit) but when we arrived they told us the water had become very muddy because of heavy rains so instead we decided to go to Black River and do the river Safari. It’s always fun to show his brothers something new and it’s funny to think I could teach them something about Jamaica too… I was the “tour guide” for the event, and for the drive too.

Sunday morning we headed down to the beach, O’Brian’s not much of a swimmer so he stayed in the shade while we had a blast in the water playing keep away with my brother-in-laws drenched t-shirt. EVERY SINGLE ONE of them tired out before me, and I’ve got 12-18 years on them! I guess I’m just used to the water games.

As always, it was fun to have them here. Below are some pictures of our fun weekend!

And there aren’t 2 month gaps in between posts anymore!! This weekend is the ATI celebration here in Negril. It’s many times compared to Jamaica’s spring break where Jamaican’s from all over (and especially Kingston) flock to Negril for a weekend of parties, music and drinking. Along with all the people comes a whole lot of traffic too (which I hate!!). The only interesting thing about the traffic is the number of high-end cars that also arrive in Negril driven by younger drivers (ages 17-26 mostly).

Now, what I find amusing is that I would bet just about anything that these expensive cars coming to Negril this weekend are 95% owned by the parents of the kids coming rather than by the drivers themselves. There is NO WAY on God’s green earth my Father would have ever let me take the “nice” car to a weekend party like this where there are other young drivers, drinking and partying going on. He would automatically expect that it was going to get wrecked (for sure!). I remember highschool graduation night (I’m a ’96 graduate) I begged and pleaded to take the “nice” car (which I think at that time was a Mazda 626 or something) to our all night party where it would be parked in the highschool parking lot of a dry lock-in at the school. I was denied, and there wasn’t even going to be any real partying going on! Instead I took the family station wagon, you know… the one with the wood paneling down the side. As fate had it that night something went wrong with the brakes and as I pulled out of the driveway I couldn’t stop and ended up in the front yard after putting down the emergency brake. I got to take the nice car afterall that night.

So, all that being said now that I’ve gotten older and wiser I’m sad to say I think now I would agree with my Dad. My kids will probably be put through the same thing as I was and have to take the old car (hopefully it won’t have wood paneling though). Unlike many coming into Negril today, my children will not need to drive an Escalade, BMW or an Audi to any event….unless that is our bad car that is.

I think my Dad said no pretty quick some of the time, but he and my mom did a pretty good job with the 5 of us kids and now I understand a lot of the no’s (that’s the older and wiser part).

Okay, so not that far past….just last November. Jennifer and Paul were married on the cliffs at Villas Sur Mer, a spectacular property. A great time was had by all and I enjoyed being part of it all. Jennifer and Paul had recently traveled to Thailand and purchased some lights, fabric for table runners and some beautiful cloth bags they gave as welcome gifts to the guests. Thank you so much for thinking of me too, I still love the bag and use it quite often.

Thanks for letting me be a part of your day, I had so much fun!

Oh and PS… take a look at their slideshow below, photos were done by SunGold Photography and they did a great job (as usual). Gotta love the slideshow song as well.

They also decided to forgo the traditional wedding cake instead opting for delicious Tortuga Rum Cakes.

They had a beautiful ceremony on the sea, unfortuantely it decided to rain through dinner time , but thankfully cleared up later in the evening in time for dancing and a beach bonfire.

Misha Earle did a great job capturing the day with her fabulous photos!

Thanks for letting me help plan your day! With the showers that happened that day you are bound for a long and fruitful marriage. Congrats!

Lisa and Gene were married at Negril Escape and Spa and had a great group of friends/family who came to celebrate with them. Gene, a DJ in NYC is a long time fan of the band Fab 5 here in Jamaica, so for their wedding they had none other but Fab 5! It was the first time I have experienced them and they were truly Fab.
